Owner of the Diderot, Jamie, who makes all the jams offered at breakfast, publishes her first cookbook.
Jamie took over the Diderot with her husband in 2015. Between hospitality and gastronomy, she just published her first cookbook focused on just one ingredient: the orange …
In 208 pages illustrated by Ilva Beretta’s photographs, Orange Appeal offers more than 70 original recipes each featuring or seasoned by the orange.
It took more than a year for the author to submit her manuscript, each recipe having been thoroughly tested, re-tested and tasted before being put in the pages of Orange Appeal.
If Orange Appeal is her first opus, this is not Jamie’s first attempt at culinary writing: she regularly contributes to magazines, websites, and newspapers in the United States.
Being American, from a Jewish family, married to a Frenchman, having lived in Italy for a long time, Jamie sees food as a subject that is both inexhaustible and unifying. And she verifies it every day at breakfast: in her 26-room hotel, she offers more than 50 varieties of jams she makes herself.
“We are the fourth family to take care of the Diderot and we wanted to keep the long jam-making tradition alive: since the 60s, Hôtel Diderot equals homemade jams! The communal tables which furnish our dining room and the memories of childhood that jam evokes encourages exchanges between guests and breaks down the language barrier! ”
